Top 10 Best (Animated) Disney Songs
I know what you’re thinking:
“Ana, you’re working a full-time job, taking an intense 3 month program, and trying to finalize an amazing portfolio - you don’t have time to waste ranking the Top 10 Best Disney Songs.”
And you know what? You would be correct. But I did it anyways, so here’s what I got:
WARNING: HOT TAKES COMING!
10. “The Bare Necessities” - The Jungle Book
Is The Jungle Book one of my favorite Disney movies? Absolutely. Are the songs incredible? No doubt. Does it deserve to be higher on this list? Probably not.
9. “Colors of the Wind” - Pocahontas
“If the savage one is me, how can there be so much that you don’t know?”
3+ minutes of Pocahontas roasting John Smith’s colonizer ass? Yes please.
8. “Part of Your World” - The Little Mermaid
Look, I’m human. I’m a sucker for nostalgia just like everyone else, and nothing is more 90s-nostalgia-inducing than the entire soundtrack to The Little Mermaid, especially “Part of Your World”
7. “Where You Are” - Moana
I might regret placing this one lower on the list because even though it’s meant to the forgettable set up song that every Disney movie has, it SLAPS and every time I listen to it I want to hear it again.
6. “I Won’t Say I’m In Love” - Hercules
I don’t really feel like I need to defend this choice, even though I’m sure I do, because Hercules is an underrated movie, and Meg is an underrated heroine, and this song is an underrated Disney classic.
5. “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” - The Lion King
Timon & Pumba’s commentary? The choir slowly growing louder? The beautiful backdrop of the sun setting? C’mon, this is a classic, and for good reason.
4. “How Far I’ll Go” - Moana
Yes, Moana is on here twice.
Why? Because it’s a modern masterpiece, that’s why. You’re lucky I limited myself to just two songs - this soundtrack could easily be the entire Top 10 list.
3. “A Whole New World” - Aladdin
“Do you trust me?”
Ugh, swoon. Easily the most romantic song Disney has every released. Also a great karaoke duet song, 10/10 would recommend.
2. “I’ll Make A Man Out of You” - Mulan
I don’t feel like I need to defend this choice, because we all know it’s true. 1:15 - 1:30 is the best :15s of all time, and if I’m being totally honest, this song gives me chills, especially at the end when Mulan is climbing the pole and the “Be A Man” chant starts.
Just, goosebumps.
1. “Go The Distance” - Hercules
Look, I didn’t come here to make friends.
This is the best Disney song - I said it. 3 versions, 2 reprises, each one growing in intensity as Hercules grows in confidence. This song is a whole journey, and it makes me feel like I can take on the world just like Herc to find where I belong.
